The Colosseum:
With the Pass Rome, you can visit the imposing Colosseum and enjoy unrestricted access.
The main entrance is on the south side of the monument, and to avoid the crowds, it’s best to get there early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Ticket-free access gives you direct access to the fast lanes, making your journey even easier.
Inside, start by exploring the lower levels, where you can admire the arches and views of the arena. You’ll also find exhibits recounting the history of the Colosseum and the shows that took place there. For a more in-depth visit, you can opt for optional access to the arena. After your visit to the Colosseum, continue your exploration of ancient sites by discovering the nearby Roman Forum and Mount Palatine.
The Roman Forum and Mount Palatine:
With the Pass Rome, you can visit the Roman Forum and Mount Palatine. For a pleasant visit, choose the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are milder and crowds less dense.
Start at the Roman Forum, Rome’s ancient political, religious and commercial center. Here you’ll see such remarkable remains as the Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Septimius Severus, and the Curia, where the Senate used to meet.
Next, head to Mount Palatine, one of Rome’s seven hills, reputed to be the site of Romulus’ foundation of the city. Explore the ruins of former imperial palaces, such as Domitian’s Palace and Livia’s House, and stroll through the Farnese Gardens, offering spectacular views of the Forum and Circus Maximus.
The full tour takes around two hours, depending on your pace.
St. Peter’s Basilica:
To visit St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the largest and most magnificent Renaissance churches, it’s advisable to prepare well in advance. Arrive early, ideally before the 7 a.m. opening time, to avoid long queues, especially during peak periods. Admission is free. Your Pass Rome gives you access to the dome at the top of the Basilica for a small supplement.
As soon as you arrive, take time to admire the majestic façade and vast Piazza San Pietro, framed by Bernini’s colonnades. Inside, you’ll marvel at exceptional works of art, such as Michelangelo’s PietĂ and Bernini’s bronze baldachin above the main altar. The grandeur of the spaces and the richness of the ornaments reflect the spiritual and historical importance of the place.
Make sure you respect the strict dress code: shoulders and knees must be covered. Security checks are also in place at the entrance, which explains the long wait without access to the fast lane.
Access to the Basilica’s dome: If you opt for the supplement allowing you access to the dome, go outside to the right of the Basilica. It’s advisable to arrive early to avoid long queues. You have two options for getting up there. Take the elevator up to the terrace, followed by 320 steps, or climb the 551 steps on foot for a more immersive experience. On the way up, enjoy a close-up view of the mosaics and the interior structure of the dome.
From the interior balcony, enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the basilica’s interior, including the altar and baldachin.
At the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Rome, the Vatican and the surrounding area. Take your time to enjoy this unique spectacle. Once back down, explore the interior of the basilica to discover its artistic and spiritual treasures, such as Michelangelo’s PietĂ . This tour through the dome offers a unique and memorable perspective on one of the world’s greatest architectural wonders.
Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel:
With the Rome Pass, you can visit the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican Museum brings together a number of museums, including the Sistine Chapel. A visit to the Vatican Museum is a must during your stay in Rome. The museum generally opens at 9 a.m., so it’s best to arrive early to enjoy the collections before the crowds arrive.
The museum entrance is located near St. Peter’s Square. Go through security and take a map of the museum to find your way around the many galleries.
The Vatican Museums are vast and overflowing with artistic treasures. Start with Raphael’s Rooms, where you can admire the artist’s impressive frescoes.
And don’t miss the Galerie des Cartes GĂ©ographiques and the Galerie des Tapisseries, featuring fascinating works of art and exceptional views.
Your visit concludes with the Sistine Chapel, famous for its ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Access to the chapel is usually at the end of the tour. Take time to admire the fresco of the Last Judgment and the biblical scenes on the ceiling, among the most famous works of the Renaissance.
The full tour can take between 3 and 4 hours, depending on your pace.
